Who is in charge?

8/7/2016

Who is in authority?
Who is the spokesman for Christianity?
Who do we listen to?

Jude 1:2  attributes of God
          Mercy, Peace, Love
Jude 1:4  false prophets
Jude 1:11  personal lives
          Three lives, with three warnings
               Cain, Balaam, and Korah
sad endings to three lives, if you don't do things God's way, life is difficult

Apostate - do things your own way, rebel against God's authority

Hebrews 1
God uses Jesus to speak to us
          Jesus is the authority
To find out more about Jesus - look in the Bible

Genesis 4
Cain - natural man, agriculture, outdoors
Sacrifice of his labor - crops
                    followed his own ideas
God called him back - he said no

          Abel - man of God,
Sacrifice of the parents - animal
followed the example of Adam and Eve set in the Bible
                    God was pleased

Revelations 2;14
Balaam - error that turned into doctrine
                    a hired minister
did what other authorities (King Balak) asked of him
                     preached what he was told
led Israel to sin for his own reward
                    followed the wrong authority
Balaam Doctrine - knew the warnings of God about keeping a separated life
live like Jew and not the world
preached intermarriage with other tribes was acceptable
preached that Israelite's should marry others to weaken the Jewish culture for King Balak

Korah - wanted authority for his own glory, not God
Moses and Aaron were the spokesman for God but Korah wanted leadership role too
introduced himself as a leader to follow instead of Moses
                    250 elders followed
questioned Moses authority and the authority of God in the wilderness

Who are the followers of God?
          Doing things God's way
          Speaking God's truth
          Recognizing God as authority

Why is the Bible so important?
Learn about Jesus - the spokesman for God
          Warnings to live by
Double check for the truth in everything

History Warns Us

7/24/2016

The Bible is a book of warnings.  There are warnings everywhere!  Warnings keep us safe.

Jude 3 & 4
Contend ... for the faith
Delivered ... unto the Saints
Faith ... turning from

Galatians 1:6
          Turning away from God
          Another Gospel
          Following a false teacher

2 Peter 2: 18-20
          not the word
          living in error
          servants of corruption
          vanity
          great sermons, but false teachings

"The Gospel of Jesus Christ offers a release from the corruption of the world, but these false teachers have changed the moral practices to accommodate the immoral practices of the day."  "The belief that we have to bring the Bible up to date to the world we live in.....is a bunch of hooey!"  Pastor Doug

Jude 4  warns us of trying to meld the world into religion
Cultural acceptance of what the Bible tells us is wrong
Not what the Bible says, it's what society says, is wrong
Melding the word of god into the world of lasciviousness is wrong

2 Peter 1: 1-3
          unorthodox teachings

Titus 1:16
          know God
see Him in their works?  in their lives?

The one and only authority of Jesus Christ is the Bible.  The world may change, but the Bible does not.

Jude 5  old testament warnings
Jude 6  fallen angels who followed Lucifer and not God
Jude 7  God's judgments on sexual sin
          perversion
          immortality

The Bible is out and the men with swelling sermons that glorify what men want to do is in....
"People are going to do what they want to do.  It's a personal choice.  We need to open the doors to everyone and love everyone in the church."  The Bible warns against thinking like this!

1 Peter - preparing you to give the gospel of Christ

Delivered = Doctrine = Faith
          the faith
          system of belief
          doctrine
  •           diligence
  •           earnestly
  •           contend

Doctrine of Christ is true and the only truth.  One true doctrine presented in the Bible.

Acts 2: 41 & 42  doctrine is consistent with the scriptures
(Acts Chapters 2, 3, & 4 explain overview of the gospel doctrine)
Matthew 28: 19 & 20  chosen apostles
Romans 6:17 by the apostles
Apostles, special group of people, never to come again
Miracles, of God, not of men, God was with them
Romans 16:17  already delivered
2 Timothy 3:16  inspired by God
Ephesians 4:14  maturity
1 Timothy 1:10  healthy
1 Timothy 4:16  saving
Titus 1:9  faithful
Titus 2:1  sound

We adjust to God and God does not adjust to us.

Jude 1:1-4

6/12/2016

The book of Jude was the last epistle accepted into the Canon.

Jude was the half brother of Jesus, but he calls himself merely "a servant of Christ". He became a follower of Jesus Christ after the resurrection. (Other brothers and sisters of Jesus never believed.)

Jude began to see a drift in the early church away from sound doctrine-Jude 1:4. He wrote the book of Jude in response to believers who were floundering.

Jude is written to believers-Jude 1:1

The beginning of Jude explains three key concepts of Christianity:
1. Believers are sanctified by God.
Permanent position, prepared, set apart by God the Father, in a unique way, in contrast to the world believers in Christ are different
John 15 "in the world but not of the world"
John 17:17 sanctification process
Ephesians 5:26 being in the word of God, truth
2 Timothy 2:21 preparation for the work of God by studying the word of God
1 Peter 1:2 believers are becoming a a different person, new in Christ

2. Believers are preserved in Jesus Christ.
Sealed, in Christ Jesus, saved, eternally kept, process of eternal life, kept for the purposes of God, eternity
2 Peter 1:4 promises of God are forever
John 1:1 word of God is eternal
2 Timothy 4:18 preserving to heaven, a time yet to come
John 10:28, 29, 30 given eternal life, new , kept in Jesus Christ, Jesus is unable to be separated from God, "they are one"
2 Corinthians 5:17 new, in Christ, also in God
Ephesians 2:6, 7 heavenly places in Christ Jesus, unified in Christ, ages to come
Colossians 1:28 perfect in Christ Jesus

*did you know there are 365 different denominations of Christianity - one day they will all be together in heaven through Jesus Christ, no divisions, all that will matter is Christ...

3. Believers are called by the Holy Spirit.
Performance, "NO ONE IS CALLED TO DO NOTHING, EVERYONE IS CALLED TO DO SOMETHING!"
John 15:16 called, chosen
Ephesians 4:1 purpose in God, called to do something
1 Thessalonians 2:12 worthy of God, worthy of your calling
2 Timoty 1:8-12 holy calling, God's purpose for us, appointed, serving God
